GEICO associates up for Women in Technology Leadership Awards

WASHINGTON, D.C., Feb. 15, 2018 - Two GEICO associates, Christine Antonsen of Bethesda, Md., and Eileen Shinnick of Alexandria, Va., have been named finalists for Women in Technology Leadership Awards.

Women in Technology (WIT), a nonprofit that aims to advance women in technology from the classroom to the boardroom, presents the annual honors to recognize professionals in the Washington, D.C., area who demonstrate leadership, vision and talent in the technology industry. Antonsen and Shinnick work at GEICO's corporate headquarters in Chevy Chase, Md.

Antonsen, a lead program analyst, is nominated for the "Rising Star" award, which honors an IT professional who has demonstrated exemplary leadership traits at an early point in her career.

She noted, "Everyone can make an impact. Start small in your area with actionable and tangible items that you can improve."

Antonsen leads a team that uses data to improve the digital experience for GEICO customers.

Shinnick, recently named director of IT billing, is among the finalists in the "Unsung Hero" category. The award goes to women who are managing technology projects and whose day-to-day work makes a major impact.

A GEICO associate for 25 years, Shinnick often shares her keys to success with newer associates and others. "Be curious," she says. "Push yourself outside your limits and always do your best to make a difference every day."

WIT will announce the winners during its Leadership Awards Gala on May 17 in Tysons, Va.

Last October, GEICO received a prestigious Top Companies for Women Technologists Award from for creating a "corporate culture that revolves around promoting diversity and inclusion" and offering "several rotational programs for entry level technologists and management that provide ongoing training for continued professional growth."
