GEICO Cares: 130+ employees volunteer at Habitat for Humanity build day in Washington, D.C.
WASHINGTON, D.C., Sept. 27, 2018 - A team of dedicated GEICO associates recently loaned a helping hand at a Habitat for Humanity site in Washington, D.C., demonstrating that "GEICO Cares" isn't just a slogan. GEICO Cares, the auto insurer's volunteer and outreach program, supports associates as they contribute time, money and creativity to nonprofit organizations in their local communities.
At the D.C. Habitat site, the GEICO teams cut and hung drywall, installed insulation, framed walls and overall learned a lot about home construction. "Our group felt accomplished at the end of the day, as though we really contributed toward bettering someone's life," said Tiffany Letona, GEICO manager of local agent operations.
The GEICO group included associates based at the Chevy Chase, Maryland., headquarters as well as those from the offices of local insurance agents Doug White, Patrick Donoho, and Matthew McCarthy, who serve customers in Sterling, Virginia, Rockville, Maryland, and Alexandria, Virginia, respectively.
In addition to those who spent time working on the multi-family home, there were many more GEICO associates who contributed funds to Habitat for Humanity. Altogether, the D.C. chapter has helped over 200 families in need of affordable housing.
"GEICO associates had a chance to work together toward a common cause in our local community," said Adam Rinker, GEICO's director of underwriting research and event organizer. "At the end of the day, we felt like our team had made an impact."
