Obeng-Curwood named assistant VP of claims at GEICO's Houston office
HOUSTON, Feb. 28, 2019 – The GEICO Board of Directors has elected Yvonne Obeng-Curwood assistant vice president of claims for the company's operations in Houston. Since 2016, she had served as liability director for the company's Seattle, Washington, operations.
Obeng-Curwood began her GEICO career in 2004 as a claims service representative at the Woodbury, New York, regional office. She held examiner roles in all levels of claims before being promoted to supervisor in 2009.
Beginning in 2011, Obeng-Curwood was promoted several times within the telephone claims representative management chain. Eventually, she was named manager of the upstate New York unit, where she had responsibility for multiple levels of claims operations.
In 2015, Obeng-Curwood was selected to join the Executive Assistant Program at GEICO's corporate headquarters in Chevy Chase, Maryland. She assumed her duties in Seattle upon completion of that program in 2016.
Obeng-Curwood graduated summa cum laude from State University of New York in Albany with a bachelor's degree in psychology; she completed a Management Seminar in 2012.
