GEICO Honda put its best foot forward to start the 2015 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series—and Eli Tomac is leading the way. Tomac kicked off GEICO Honda’s winning ways in Phoenix on January 14, where he captured his first career 450cc Supercross victory.
“It’s a huge deal,” he told the GEICO Honda blog after his win. “It’s a huge weight off my shoulders. I got second twice last year, and I was getting beat up by the best guys in the world.”
Now he’s beating the best in the world.
It was also a nice way for Tomac to rebound after a tough start to the season. He went down twice during the first race in Anaheim on January 6, and he finished near the end of the pack. It’s all been uphill since then.
Tomac followed up his win in Phoenix with a fourth-place finish in Oakland on January 24, a third-place podium finish in Anaheim on January 31, and a fifth-place finish in San Diego on Feb. 7.
Despite Tomac’s strong start, he’s still not satisfied as he looks to improve each and every race. “You see all the guys at the top of the standings…and you don’t want to give up any more points than you have to,” he told the GEICO Honda blog after the race in San Diego. “I’m not happy right now, but sometimes over the course of a 17-race season you have to be content with a fifth-place finish and the points you earn.”
Currently Tomac is in fourth place overall—within striking distance of the podium as the season nears the halfway mark.
