Charlotte Car Insurance: The Basics
Called the "Queen City" by locals, the Charlotte area is rapidly growing and is the largest city in North Carolina. It's known as a center for finance, industry, technology, entertainment, and its most popular pastime—professional race car driving. Fortunately, the professionals keep it on the racetrack in Concord and everyday drivers in the Charlotte area know that it's important to have the right auto insurance to protect them and their vehicles. GEICO works hard to offer excellent car insurance rates in the greater Charlotte area, so get your free Charlotte car insurance quote today.
Navigating Your Way Around Charlotte
Most of Uptown has streets that are laid out in a grid. Streets running east and west are numbered sequentially, and named streets run north and south. However, once outside of the city, many of the roads follow the natural landscape. This often makes them difficult to navigate since their direction and names can change without warning. Many roads in and around Charlotte actually share the same name—sometimes even intersecting with each other.
For faster travel around Uptown, drivers can use the I-277 loop. However, keep a sharp eye on the signs since the west side of the loop is actually I-77. Locals recommend following signs for "Downtown" to keep from passing the exits to get back onto I-277. Further from Uptown is I-485, which nearly encircles the entire city. The northernmost four miles are still under construction, but the existing roadways make for an excellent means for getting around the outer limits of the city.
Other Transportation Options For Charlotte
The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) has an extensive bus service that runs from Uptown to the surrounding areas with fares as low as $1.75. However, bus service is slow, so locals recommend taking the LYNX light rail train line if possible. The LYNX Blue Line crosses the city from I-485 in the southwest to 7th Street past the convention center. Or if you prefer to stay on the roads, there are several taxi companies in Charlotte. While cab rates are fixed for every cab regardless of operator, long distance travels can become expensive quickly. Be sure to ask about rates before getting into the cab if you're planning a long trip across town.
