GEICO sets February 1 deadline to nominate 2022 Military Service Award honorees

WASHINGTON, D.C., Nov. 7, 2022–GEICO is now accepting nominations for its 34th annual GEICO Military Service Awards. Through this program, one active duty or reserve enlisted member from each of the six branches of military service and one enlisted member from the National Guard will be honored for their outstanding volunteer service.

The GEICO Military Service Award Nomination forms are due to GEICO via the service-specific nomination process for each branch, no later than Feb. 1, 2023.

Program Purpose

The GEICO Military Service Awards Program recognizes and pays tribute to the many contributions of our nation's Military enlisted members as "Citizens and Service Members."

For 34 years, GEICO, with the support of the GEICO Philanthropic Foundation, help spotlight and publicly recognize valuable and lasting contributions that enlisted members of the Armed Services make in their communities.

The Award

The GEICO Military Service Awards honor one currently serving enlisted member from each of the six Armed Services (Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard & Space Force) and one enlisted member from the National Guard for their achievements and contributions on-duty and off-duty for their Military and Civilian communities. e in both of the following areas of endeavor:

  • Leadership (on-duty accomplishments)
  • Community Involvement (off-duty accomplishments)

The Active Duty/Reserve and National Guard recipients will be recognized annually and receive a certificate to commemorate their accomplishments, as well as a cash honorarium of $2,500 from the GEICO Philanthropic Foundation.

Eligibility

All currently serving enlisted service members, including Reserve and National Guard with at least one year of retainability/obligated service remaining following the February 1 date of the award submission deadline are eligible. Previous GEICO Military Service Award recipients are ineligible.

Selection Criteria

Selections are based on demonstrated (on-duty/in-uniform) leadership and mission accomplishments that place this person head and shoulders above their peers while serving in one of the Armed Services, Reserves or National Guard. Also, off-duty volunteer activities, contributions or noteworthy accomplishments that enhance the Civilian community will be considered. In alignment with our value of intentional inclusion, we hope to receive a pool of candidates reflective of the various communities we serve.

Nominations

Through the individual service's established procedures, each unit/base/post/activity may nominate TWO Enlisted members who have provided outstanding service to the Military AND Civilian community through noteworthy achievements in the selected categories identified above.

Nominees will be judged first on their off-duty volunteer activities, and then their in-uniform accomplishments, to the extent these activities serve to inspire Military or Civilian personnel.
