Qualifying Event

A qualifying event is a life or employment status change that gives you the opportunity to change your benefit elections, provided you make your benefit change and submit dependent documentation and supporting documentation within 60 days (30 days for New hire or Employment status change) of your qualifying event date. Qualifying event examples include:

  • New hire or newly eligible, e.g., change from part-time to full-time status
  • Birth/Adoption of child
  • Death of an enrolled dependent
  • Divorce/Dissolution of domestic partnership
  • Gain eligibility for coverage under other plan for yourself or dependent
  • Lose eligibility for coverage under other plan for yourself or dependent
  • Marriage/Enrolling a domestic partner

  • Repayment of premiums after benefits are cancelled for non-payment
