COVID-19 State Information

GEICO has paused cancellation of policies for non-payment until May 31, 2020 for all of our auto, motorcycle, and RV policyholders. We continue to monitor COVID-19 updates including state specific guidelines and any required changes. Please note that we will follow all state specific requirements. These changes will be automatic and require no action from you unless specifically noted below.

We will continue to update the list of states and their guidelines. If your state is not listed, then the original May 31, 2020 date will apply to all cancellations. For additional assistance after this date please contact us.

If you can make a payment, we strongly encourage you to do so, as unpaid bills must still be paid after the pause period to avoid cancellation.

  • New Jersey Policyholders

    We have implemented the following for all New Jersey customers. You don't need to contact us to take advantage of these benefits. We will not:

    • Issue any cancellation notices for non-payment of premium earlier than June 1, 2020
    • Charge late payment fees; or
    • Report debt accrued during the COVID-19 crisis to credit reporting agencies

    If you require further assistance due to the COVID-19 pandemic, please contact us and we will:

    • Extend the suspension of the non-payment cancellation notices for 90 days from May 1, 2020
      • While your policy will not cancel for non-payment of premium, please note the amount due will continue to accrue; and
    • Allow premiums due but not paid during the 90-day period to be paid over the remainder of the policy term or up to 12 months in up to 12 equal installments, whichever is longer
      • Failure to remain current on your repayment obligation may result in cancellation of your policy and other enforcement actions

    We are dedicated to working with you to develop flexible payment plans and/or special payment plans once normal billing resumes. We are available to assist you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at (800) 841-3000.

  • New York Policyholders

    The state of New York has issued an emergency regulation to assist New York policyholders during COVID-19. If you are unable to make a payment and can demonstrate a financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we will:

    • Provide a 60-day suspension on cancellation if you are unable to make a payment on time
    • Allow premiums due, but not paid, during the 60-day period to be paid over the course of the following year; and
    • Will not change late payment fees and not report late payments to credit rating agencies

    We're dedicated to working with you, including flexible payment plans and/or special payment plans once normal billing resumes. If you need to take advantage of this, you must contact us no later than June 30, 2020 via one of the methods below and note your name and policy number.
