Driving in the "City of Brotherly Love"
Philadelphia is always bustling, no matter the season, which shouldn't come as a surprise when you consider all of the history (the Liberty Bell), arts (Philadelphia Museum of Art), quality food (too many restaurants to count!) and sporting events available. However, with popular attractions comes heavy congestion, much of it caused by foot traffic at some of the city's busier intersections. When you hit Market Street to tour Independence Hall or grab a bite to eat and go shopping on South Street, be sure to look out for pedestrians enjoying the city as well.
It's also important to know the rules of the road when driving in Philadelphia. Cell phone use (including texting) is prohibited in the city unless a hand-free device is being used. Be sure to have your headlights on when driving through work zones and when your windshield wipers are in use. Drivers under the age of 18 many not carry more passengers than there are seat belts in the vehicle. Children aged 4 or younger must be buckled into a federally approved child passenger restraint system. Children between the ages of 4 and 8 must be buckled into a federally approved child booster seat.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike is a perfect route for traveling west, and Roosevelt Boulevard (U.S. Route 1) connects Northeast Philadelphia with Center City. Interstate 476 runs to the city's western suburbs.
